Overview of DVI
Silicon Image, in conjunction with Intel and leading PC and display OEMs, established DVI to enable a standard all-digital interface between PCs and digital displays, such as LCD flat panel monitors. A DVI display system consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is the source of the signal, either built into the graphics chip itself, or as an add-on chip on the printed circuit board of the graphics accelerator. The receiver is circuitry within the display device that receives the digital signal, decodes it and then passes it on to the circuitry that displays the image on the monitor.
